Centennial, CO, November 27, 2017
Easterseals Colorado (ESC) is honoring both Don Hindman, Executive Vice President of Johnson Storage & Moving, and Johnson Storage and Moving (JSM) at their 7th Annual Season of Lights Gala on December 8th, 2017. Since 2010, Hindman has helped ESC grow threefold—from serving 4,000 people with disabilities in the Denver metro area, to serving 13,000 people across the Front Range and Summit County. Johnson Storage and Moving has sponsored the annual Golf Classic, the ever-popular truck pull, and the Season of Lights Gala. JSM is also a proud employer and sponsor of ESC Employment Crews, successfully integrating people with disabilities into their workforce and corporate culture. Between Hindman and JSM, they have donated over $250,000 to Easterseals Colorado over the last seven years.
“Year in and year out, Don has always been one of our biggest advocates,” says Lisa Dokter, VP of Development at ESC. “He lives our mission by organizing events to raise donations, participating in events, volunteering both on our board and at our Rocky Mountain Village Camp, as well as getting his family involved in volunteer projects and providing priceless guidance to move our organization forward.”
Hindman contacted Easterseals Colorado in 2010 after he and his family relocated to the Denver area from Chicago, where he had been an active member of the Board of Directors of Easterseals Chicago for over five years. ESC was excited to welcome him to the board given his enthusiasm and commitment to its mission. While on the board, he spearheaded the efforts of Johnson Storage and Moving. "We saw how he readily welcomed a team of disabled workers to Johnson. The amazing part of this relationship is not only his willingness to provide an employment site, but how he has lead and included these workers in his work force. Under his leadership he has changed the culture of his company, ensuring that workers with disabilities have meaningful work, are respected, and integrated into Johnson’s workforce," said Lynn Robinson, CEO & President of Easterseals Colorado. "Don continues to spread this message and the value of a diverse workforce to others in the business community."
The Season of Lights Gala will be held at The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa this year on December 8th, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The Brown first opened in 1892, just a few years before Johnson Storage and Moving opened its doors. The gala is ESC’s single largest fundraising event of the year. There are still a few tables left for those interested in attending. With 91 cents of every dollar raised going directly back to the people and programs that ESC supports, Easterseals Colorado is a wonderful organization to sponsor. A full 100% of the donations raised stay in Colorado to support local Coloradans with disabilities and their families. In addition, ESC has tax incentives such as the Child Care Tax credit and the EZ Tax Credit available to donors donating over $250. For more information and tickets to the gala, go to the event page on Easterseals Colorado’s website.
Easterseals has a long tradition of helping those with disabilities. Founded in 1919 as the National Society for Crippled Children, it wasn’t until 1967 that the organization’s name was changed to “Easterseals” after decades of increasingly successful annual fundraising campaigns asking “simply for the right to a normal life” signified by a seal with the image of a lily. Easterseals was instrumental in lobbying for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and continues to ensure that those with disabilities are protected under ADA.
